AI-Based English Module for Accounting Students

Artificial Intelligence (AI) has significantly transformed education and language learning by creating more interactive, personalized, and adaptive learning environments. Within the field of English for Specific Purposes (ESP), especially for accounting students, there is an increasing need for learning modules that combine discipline-based content with advanced educational technology. However, existing resources remain limited and often fail to meet the specific linguistic and professional demands of vocational learners. This study aimed to design and evaluate an AI-based English module tailored to the needs of accounting students. Employing a Research and Development (R&D) approach using the ADDIE model (Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, and Evaluation), the research involved need analysis, expert validation, small-group testing, and field implementation. The findings revealed that the module achieved a high feasibility rating from experts (87.2%), significantly improved students’ English achievement (from a pre-test mean of 62.4 to a post-test mean of 80.7, p < 0.05), and received positive responses from users. Most students reported improved comprehension of accounting terms, enhanced confidence in professional communication, and satisfaction with AI-integrated features such as chatbot interaction and speech recognition. These results indicate that the AI-based module is pedagogically effective, technologically interactive, and contextually relevant to vocational English education. Theoretically, this study contributes to ESP pedagogy, while practically, it offers a model for integrating AI-assisted learning in higher education contexts.

Style in Non-Fiction Books: The Subtle Art of Not Giving a F*ck by Mark Manson

The Subtle Art of Not Giving a F*ck by Mark Manson is a popular non-fiction work that conveys life messages in an honest, assertive, and sarcastic manner. This study aims to describe the style of language in the book from three aspects: word choice, tone, and sentence structure. The study uses a qualitative descriptive method with qualitative analysis. Data was collected through a literature review of the book, then analysed through the stages of data condensation, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. The theoretical framework refers to Gorys Keraf's concept of language style, which includes classification based on word choice (formal, informal, conversational), tone (simple, noble, middle), and sentence structure (climax, anticlimax, repetition, parallelism, antithesis). The results of the study shed light that the sentence structure aspect is the most dominant with 35 data points, followed by word choice (33 data points) and tone (30 data points). The word choice tends to be straightforward and reflective, the tone is casual yet serious, while the sentence structure is used strategically to reinforce the message and emotion. These findings indicate that style is the author's main tool in conveying ideas effectively and communicatively. The distinctive style, which is direct, straightforward, and full of honesty, makes it easier for readers to understand and resonate with the reflective messages in this book. This study is expected to serve as a reference in the study of language style in popular non-fiction texts.

Development of Multidisciplinary-Based Indonesian Interactive E-Modules to Improve Students Scientific Writing Competency

Scientific writing is a crucial skill for students to master, as it enables them to become reliable and skilled observers. This study aims to develop an interdisciplinary-based interactive e-module for the Indonesian language course to improve students' scientific writing competence. This learning is conducted in the General Indonesian Language course at universities. The research used the Research and Development (R&D) method with the 4-D model (Define, Design, Develop, Disseminate). The subjects were 55 students from the English Education and English Literature Study Programs at Universitas Negeri Medan. Expert validation results showed a material feasibility of 77.5% and media feasibility of 73.8%, both falling within the feasible category. Student responses reached 81%, which is considered very positive. Furthermore, the average pre-test score increased from 68.2 to 82.7, with an N-Gain of 0.45, placing it in the moderate-high effectiveness category. Based on these discoveries, the developed e-module is considered feasible, practical, and effective for enhancing students’ scientific writing competence.
